Abigail Folsom
I am passionate about mental health support and apply my training and personal interest in psychology and philosophy to help you meet adversities in life, whether it be school stress, coping with new or ongoing mental health diagnoses, or recovering from a major life event or setback. I am trained in relational, trauma-informed and dialectical therapies. You can often find me in university libraries looking through the psychology stacks and I tap into community resources to find the most helpful strategies to support you. I inform my therapy conversations with philosophy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Existential Therapy, Buddhist Psychotherapy, Schema Therapy, and Humanistic Psychology. I hold a Bachelor’s from Arizona State in Psychology and am finishing up the final requirement for my Master’s Degree in Counseling, my internship where I meet with clients and learn how best to support various troubles and conditions. My role as a counselor in your life is an empathetic, non-judgemental listener and observer where I help support “the brain and the being.”
I find help through metaphor, symbolism, and images to help discover and gain clarity around thoughts, feelings and behaviors so you may see me bringing art prompt cards, art supplies, whiteboards and visual tools to help us, and you’re always welcome to pass on any of these tools. I also bring fidget toys and weighted bean bags to help with somatic work and grounding you in sessions. I’ll include information about my techniques in our intake-form and informed consent paperwork and you can always opt out if it doesn’t sound like your thing. I want you to feel safe and in control of your therapy experience.
